What material is A479 S31803 bar ?
ASTM A479/A479M is a key standard for stainless steel materials used in boilers and pressure vessels. ASTM A479 S31803 stainless steel bar stock is made of duplex stainless steel, commonly known as 2205 duplex stainless steel. It possesses high strength, excellent corrosion resistance (especially resistance to chloride corrosion and pitting), and good weldability. It is commonly used in chemical, oil and gas, and marine environments, and is suitable for bars and profiles in boilers and pressure vessels. Its properties are similar to ASTM A182 F51.

ASTM A276 S31803 is a general-purpose stainless steel bar specification covering hot/cold-finished rounds/squares/hexes (min yield 450 MPa, tensile 620–880 MPa, elongation ≥25%, Brinell hardness ≤290 HB) for non-pressure structural uses, while ASTM A479 UNS S31803 is tailored for high-stress boiler/pressure vessel components with stricter heat treatment control, identical base chemistry (Cr 21.0–23.0%, Ni 4.5–6.5%, Mo 2.5–3.5%, N 0.08–0.20%), and optional higher carbon (up to 0.15%) for enhanced strength, typically costing 8–12% more than A276 grades for the same diameter.
