What material is 1.4539?
Material 1.4539 (also known as 904L, UNS N08904, or X1NiCrMoCu25-20-5) is a highly alloyed super austenitic stainless steel. It is designed for extreme corrosion resistance, particularly in acidic, chloride-containing, and seawater environments. It features a high nickel (23–28%) and molybdenum (4–5%) content, which provides exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.
What is 1.4539 ASTM material equivalent to?
The EN designation for ASTM 1.4539 material is UNS N08904 or 904L stainless steel. While 1.4539 is a European (EN) standard, UNS N08904 (or "904L") is the corresponding standard under the UNS (Unified Numbering System), which is often used in the US.

Effect of Temperature on Mechanical Properties:
1.4539 has high strength at room temperature and maintains good strength at elevated temperatures (e.g., tensile strength of approximately 410 MPa at 500°C), but it is generally recommended for use below 450°C to avoid excessive oxidation.
1.4539 Stainless Steel Corrosion Resistance
904L alloy and its alternatives offer excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion in both the as-delivered and sensitized conditions, as well as pitting and stress corrosion. Furthermore, the steel exhibits high resistance to crevice and pitting corrosion, as well as good weldability. In the TMT process, the supersaturation temperature is 1050-1150°C, and the forging and rolling temperatures are 900-1200°C.
