What is the difference between A249 and A213?ASTM 440B Stainless SteelSS 316l

201 (Mn-Ni): The Budget Option

Composition: Higher Manganese, lower Nickel (replaces nickel to cut costs).

Pros: Lower initial cost, slightly higher tensile/yield strength, faster work hardening (stronger when worked).

Cons: Lower corrosion resistance (more prone to rust/staining), less stable passivation layer, not food-grade for most uses.

Best For: Indoor decorative trim, light-duty kitchenware (not for food contact), appliances in dry areas.

304 (Cr-Ni): The Premium Standard

Composition: Higher Chromium and Nickel.

Pros: Excellent corrosion resistance, superior ductility/formability, great weldability, stable in moist/food environments, non-magnetic (usually).

Cons: Higher cost due to nickel.

Best For: Kitchen sinks, food processing, medical equipment, outdoor furniture, water bottles, anything food/moisture related.
