Overview
316H is a high-carbon austenitic stainless steel, engineered for high-temperature applications requiring exceptional creep strength and corrosion resistance. With a carbon content of 0.04-0.10%, it offers superior high-temperature mechanical stability compared to 316 and 316L, enabling continuous service above 595°C. It retains 2.00-3.00% molybdenum for chloride corrosion resistance, along with 16.00-18.00% Cr and 10.00-14.00% Ni to maintain a stable austenitic structure (non-magnetic in annealed state). This grade is weldable with proper preheating and is widely used in high-temperature industrial equipment, including nuclear power components, where creep deformation is a critical concern.
Chemical Composition (wt%)
C: 0.04-0.10, Si ≤ 1.00, Mn ≤ 2.00, P ≤ 0.045, S ≤ 0.030, Cr: 16.00-18.00, Ni: 10.00-14.00, Mo: 2.00-3.00, N ≤ 0.10
Typical Mechanical Properties (Annealed Condition)
Tensile Strength (Rm): ≥ 520 MPa; Yield Strength (Rp0.2): ≥ 205 MPa; Elongation (A): ≥ 35%; Brinell Hardness (HB): ≤ 201
Core Advantages
High carbon content enhances high-temperature creep strength and dimensional stability; molybdenum ensures chloride corrosion resistance; excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance (up to 700°C); non-magnetic; good weldability with preheating; suitable for nuclear and petrochemical high-temperature equipment.
Applications
Nuclear power plant components, high-temperature boilers, steam turbines, petrochemical cracking equipment, industrial heat exchangers, and high-temperature piping systems.
Equivalent Grades
UNS S31609, STS316H, SUS316H, EN 1.4406, GB 07Cr17Ni12Mo2
