316 316L Marine Grade Stainless Steel Pipe Introduction
316/316L stainless steel pipe (UNS S31600/S31603) is an austenitic stainless steel designed for marine and harsh corrosive environments. 2-3% molybdenum (Mo) alloying significantly improves resistance to chloride ion (Cl⁻) corrosion. Among them, 316L (ultra-low carbon, C≤0.03%) further optimizes welding performance and avoids the risk of intergranular corrosion.

Marine 316 stainless steel pipes have 2-3% molybdenum elements to form a dense MoO₃ oxide film, which has more than 5 times the resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion than 304 stainless steel. It is suitable for harsh environments such as salt spray, tides, and seawater immersion. In cooling water, ballast water and marine atmosphere containing chloride ions, it can effectively reduce biological fouling and corrosion fatigue. Its room temperature tensile strength is ≥515MPa (316)/≥485MPa (316L), and its elongation is ≥40%. It can withstand dynamic loads such as ship vibration and wave impact, and has both high strength and toughness.
