ASTM A270 TP316L sanitary-grade stainless steel seamless pipes are designed for industries with extremely high hygiene requirements, such as dairy, food, pharmaceutical, and medical sectors. They primarily comply with the ASTM A270 and DIN 11850 standards. These pipes are typically made from 316L stainless steel, offering excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature performance. Both their inner and outer surfaces undergo mechanical or electropolishing, achieving surface roughness of Ra ≤ 0.8μm (mechanically polished) or Ra ≤ 0.5μm (electropolished) to ensure hygiene and prevent bacterial growth. They are widely used in bioreactors, infusion pipelines, food processing equipment, and similar applications.
Annealing
All tubing shall be furnished in the heat-treated condition, Hydrogen bright annealed in line to 1900°F(1040° C) minimum and rapidly quenched.
Surface Finishes
ASTM A270 permits Mill Finish, Mechanically Polished to a variety of grit finishes, or Electropolished ID with Mechanically Polished OD.
The surface finish is 20 Ra ID maximum, 30 Ra OD maximum surface roughness measured with the profilometer reading at 90 degrees to the major polishing pattern. Our polishing techniques result in surface finishes that lead the industry. All tubing is printed with size, alloy, and heat number for full traceability.

What is the wall thickness of ASTM A270 TP316L stainless steel pipes?
ASTM A270 TP316L sanitary-grade stainless steel pipes are generally small-diameter pipes, ranging from 1/2 inch to 2 1/2 inches in outer diameter, with wall thicknesses between 0.049 inch (1.24 mm) and 0.15 inch (3.81 mm). The maximum outer diameter for ASTM A270 TP316L pipes is 12 inches (note: corrected from "3.8 millimeters" to the accurate 12-inch/304.8 mm specification). These pipes use the inch-pound system as the standard measurement unit. The wall thickness tolerance of ASTM A270 TP316L pipes must not exceed 12.5%.
