ASTM A240 201 stainless steel hot rolled plate supplied by GNEE is a chromium-nickel-manganese austenitic stainless steel. It belongs to an economical low-nickel, high-manganese stainless steel grade. After hot rolling, the plate undergoes pickling treatment (No.1 finish), resulting in a rough surface suitable for subsequent painting, coating, or other fabrication processes. In many non-strongly corrosive environments, it can serve as a cost-effective alternative to 304 stainless steel.

201 stainless steel hot rolled plates are commonly used in industrial structures, water tank base plates, and large mechanical supports. We adopt fully automatic leveling processing, with actual thickness tolerance controlled within ±0.05 mm. In addition, the material offers tensile strength ≥520 MPa, yield strength ≥205 MPa, elongation ≥40%, and hardness ≤187 HB. These properties comply with the strength and ductility requirements of ASTM A240 standards for pressure vessels and general applications, making the plates suitable for shearing, stamping, rolling, and other secondary processing operations.

What is the differences between 201 and 304 stainless steel hot-rolled sheets?

201 stainless steel typically contains between 0.5% and 1.5% nickel, while 304 contains over 8%. In dry, low-corrosion indoor environments or industrial support structures, 201 is a highly cost-effective alternative, costing approximately 30%-40% less than 304. However, for coastal, humid, or strongly acidic/alkaline environments, 304 is recommended.

 

Why do some 201 hot-rolled sheets break or develop microcracks when bent?

This is usually related to the copper (Cu) content. 201 has high hardness and poor toughness. GNEE's 201 hot-rolled sheets maintain an elongation of over 40% by controlling the Cu content to ≥0.8%. This ensures that no visible cracks appear at the radius (R) corners during 90° or 180° bending, making it ideal for machining complex structural components.
