What is 1.4301 / V2A Stainless Steel?
EN 1.4301, commonly referred to as V2A steel or AISI 304, is an austenitic stainless steel containing 18% chromium and 8% nickel.
The name "V2A" comes from the German term Versuchsschmelze 2 Austenit, meaning "experimental melt no. 2 (austenitic)", which was one of the first stainless steel types developed in Germany in the early 20th century.
Today, V2A (1.4301) is the most commonly used stainless steel worldwide, valued for its balanced performance, cost-efficiency, and aesthetic appearance.

What is the equivalent of V2A steel?

V2A, akin to 1.4301 or AISI 304, embodies versatility and reliability. While not as impervious as V4A, it finds applications across industries where moderate corrosion resistance suffices.

Advantages of 1.4301 V2A Stainless Steel

Feature Benefit
Corrosion Resistance Performs excellently in fresh water, food environments, and mild chemicals.
Good Weldability Suitable for all standard welding methods (TIG, MIG, laser, resistance).
Excellent Formability Easily shaped, bent, or deep-drawn into complex parts.
Aesthetic Appearance Bright, reflective finish suitable for decorative applications.
Hygienic and Easy to Clean Perfect for food and pharmaceutical use.

What is the difference between V2A and V4A stainless steel?
V2A (1.4301 / AISI 304) does not contain molybdenum, while V4A (1.4404 / AISI 316L) does.V4A offers better resistance to chlorides and seawater corrosion, making it suitable for marine or chemical environments.

Is 1.4301 magnetic?
No. In its annealed state, 1.4301 stainless steel is non-magnetic. Slight magnetism may appear after cold forming.

Can 1.4301 be used outdoors?
Yes, it performs well in normal atmospheric conditions but is not ideal for coastal or chloride-rich environments (use 316L instead).

What is the price of 1.4301 stainless steel?
The 1.4301 stainless steel price per kg typically ranges between US$2.5 – 3.2/kg, depending on the form, thickness, and surface finish.
