2205 has 21-23% chromium, 4.5-6.5% nickel, 2.5-3.5% molybdenum. 2507 boosts chromium to 24-26%, nickel to 6-8%, molybdenum to 3-4%, and adds nitrogen, increasing strength and corrosion resistance.​

 

Which provides better corrosion resistance?​

2507 outperforms 2205 in harsh settings, with a higher pitting resistance equivalent (PRE) of 40+ vs 2205's 34. It resists pitting and stress corrosion in extreme brines and acids.​

 

How do they compare in strength?​

2507 has a tensile strength of 800-1000 MPa, higher than 2205's 620-827 MPa. Both offer double the yield strength of 316, making them ideal for weight-sensitive structural parts.​

 

What about their fabrication properties?​

Both are weldable but require controlled heat input to maintain duplex balance. 2507 is slightly harder to form due to higher strength but remains workable for most industrial processes.​

 

Where are 2205 and 2507 commonly used?​

2205 is in offshore pipelines and chemical tanks. 2507 finds use in desalination plants, acid processing, and extreme offshore applications where maximum strength and corrosion resistance are needed.
