Overview:

304 stainless steel, commonly referred to as 18/8 austenitic alloy, is the most widely used stainless steel grade globally. It is a versatile, cost-effective option suitable for a broad range of general applications, offering a balance of formability, weldability, and corrosion resistance that meets most industrial and consumer needs.

Chemical Composition (wt%):

Chromium (Cr): 18.0-20.0; Nickel (Ni): 8.0-11.0; Carbon (C): ≤0.08; Manganese (Mn): ≤2.00; Silicon (Si): ≤1.00; Phosphorus (P): ≤0.045; Sulfur (S): ≤0.030; Iron (Fe): Balance.

Typical Mechanical Properties (Annealed Condition):

Tensile Strength: ≥515 MPa; Yield Strength: ≥205 MPa; Elongation: ≥40%; Hardness (Brinell): ≤201 HB.

Core Advantages:

Non-magnetic; excellent formability and weldability, suitable for various processing methods (bending, stamping, welding); good oxidation resistance in continuous service up to 870°C; reliable corrosion resistance in atmospheric and most mild corrosive environments; cost-effective and readily available in various forms (sheets, pipes, bars, fittings).

Applications:

Kitchenware and tableware, architectural trim and cladding, household appliances (refrigerators, ovens), food processing equipment (storage tanks, conveyors), automotive trim parts, general chemical equipment, water tanks, and decorative fixtures.

Equivalent Grades: UNS S30400; EN 1.4301; JIS SUS304; GB/T 06Cr19Ni10.
