ASTM A312 S31254 (also known as 254SMO or 6Mo) super austenitic stainless steel pipe offers excellent corrosion resistance, particularly pitting and crevice corrosion in aggressive media like seawater, and high strength to withstand demanding conditions. SMO UNS S31254 pipe offers excellent machinability due to its low sulfur content and high work hardening rate. SA 312 UNS S31254 pipe requires annealing followed by a water quench. Post-annealing is recommended to maintain optimal corrosion resistance.
ASTM A312 S31254 seamless or welded pipe is well-suited for a variety of heat exchanger applications, including desalination, offshore platforms, and process plants. Additionally, these SMO 254 pipes are used in pulp mill bleaching systems, petroleum distillation towers, and flue gas desulfurization scrubbers.
