Overview
Grade 430 is a ferritic stainless steel widely used for its good corrosion resistance, excellent formability, and cost-effectiveness. It contains 16.0-18.0% chromium, providing better corrosion resistance than Grade 409, especially in atmospheric and freshwater environments. Unlike martensitic grades, Grade 430 is non-heat-treatable but offers good ductility and weldability, making it suitable for decorative and structural applications. It is magnetic and has a matte finish that is easy to polish, serving as a popular choice for household appliances and architectural components where aesthetics and cost are key factors.
Chemical Composition (wt%)
C ≤ 0.12, Cr: 16.00-18.00, Mn ≤ 1.00, Si ≤ 1.00, P ≤ 0.045, S ≤ 0.030, Ni ≤ 0.75, Ti ≤ 0.75
Typical Mechanical Properties (Annealed Condition)
Tensile Strength (Rm): ≥ 450 MPa; Yield Strength (Rp0.2): ≥ 205 MPa; Elongation (A): ≥ 22%; Brinell Hardness (HB): ≤ 183
Core Advantages
Cost-effective with good atmospheric corrosion resistance; excellent formability and weldability; magnetic; easy to polish for decorative finishes; non-heat-treatable with stable mechanical properties; suitable for large-scale production.
Applications
Household appliance panels, kitchen utensils, architectural trim, decorative sheets, heat exchangers, and general industrial components in mild corrosive environments.
Equivalent Grades
EN 1.4016, UNS S43000, GB 06Cr17, SUS430
