Overview
STS316H is a high-carbon austenitic stainless steel, specifically designed for high-temperature applications requiring excellent creep strength and oxidation resistance. With a carbon content of 0.04-0.10%, it provides higher high-temperature strength and creep resistance compared to STS316 and STS316L, making it suitable for continuous service at temperatures above 595°C. It retains the molybdenum addition (2.00-3.00%) for corrosion resistance and contains 16.00-18.00% chromium and 10.00-14.00% nickel to maintain a stable austenitic structure. It is non-magnetic, has good weldability, and is widely used in high-temperature industrial equipment such as boilers and heat exchangers.
Chemical Composition (wt%)
C: 0.04-0.10, Cr: 16.00-18.00, Ni: 10.00-14.00, Mo: 2.00-3.00, Mn ≤ 2.00, Si ≤ 1.00, P ≤ 0.045, S ≤ 0.030, N ≤ 0.10
Typical Mechanical Properties (Annealed Condition)
Tensile Strength (Rm): ≥ 520 MPa; Yield Strength (Rp0.2): ≥ 205 MPa; Elongation (A): ≥ 35%; Brinell Hardness (HB): ≤ 201
Core Advantages
High carbon content enhances high-temperature creep strength and mechanical stability; excellent oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures (continuous service up to 700°C); molybdenum addition ensures corrosion resistance in chloride environments; non-magnetic; good weldability with proper preheating; suitable for high-temperature pressure vessels and heat-resistant components.
Applications
High-temperature boilers, heat exchangers, steam turbines, petrochemical cracking equipment, nuclear power plant components, and other high-temperature industrial equipment requiring creep resistance and corrosion protection.
Equivalent Grades
EN 1.4406, UNS S31609, GB 07Cr17Ni12Mo2, AISI 316H, SUS316H
