What is Super Duplex 2205 pipe?

Duplex 2205 (UNS S32205/S31803) pipe is a popular, high-strength, two-phase (austenite and ferrite) stainless steel known for excellent resistance to corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, pitting, and erosion. Its composition includes 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5-6% nickel, providing superior strength and fatigue resistance. It is widely used in the chemical, oil and gas, and marine industries for applications like tanks, piping, heat exchangers, and other high-pressure, corrosive environments.

What is SS 904L pipe?

SS 904L pipes are made of high-alloy austenitic stainless steel. Their high content of chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and copper makes them highly resistant to attack by strong acids such as sulfuric, phosphoric, and acetic acids, making them a popular choice for chemical processing, pharmaceutical equipment, desalination plants, and other demanding industrial applications where standard stainless steels like 316L are not suitable.

 

 

At low temperatures, 904L will retain good impact toughness, and it is not at risk of forming deleterious intermetallic phases at higher temperatures. However, super duplex 2205 stainless steels have higher levels of strength, which means that thinner sections can be used to achieve the same structural performance.

Critical Pitting Temperature (CPT): ~35–50°C.

SS904L Pipe

Superior resistance to reducing acids like sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid.

Performs better than 2205 in high-chloride and acidic environments.

Critical Pitting Temperature (CPT): ~25–35°C, but higher PREN (~35).
