What material is SUS329J3L?
SUS329J3L is a stainless steel containing 19% to 23% chromium, 23% to 28% nickel, and 4% to 5% molybdenum. It has good corrosion resistance and high corrosion resistance in strong corrosive media such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid.It offers superior performance over 316L in chloride environments and has lower thermal expansion with higher thermal conductivity.
What is the equivalent of SUS329J3L material?
SUS329J3L is a Japanese duplex stainless steel equivalent to the widely known ASTM/UNS S31803/S32205, also known as AISI 2205, EN 1.4462, F51, and X2CrNiMoN22-5-3. It's a strong, corrosion-resistant duplex steel offering excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking, making it suitable for harsh chemical and marine environments.
What is SUS329J3L equivalent to ASTM?
SUS329J3L (a Japanese JIS standard) is a duplex stainless steel, and its closest ASTM equivalent is ASTM A240 S31803 (or UNS S31803), also known as ASTM 31803 or S31803, which is a common designation for this type of acid-resistant, high-strength duplex material used in pressure vessels and general applications.

SUS329J3L Stainless Steel corrosion resistance
SUS329J3L is a super duplex stainless steel with a balanced 50/50 austenite-ferrite microstructure, containing 25–27% Cr, 3–5% Ni, 1.2–2.0% Mo and ≤0.03% C, providing excellent resistance to pitting, crevice and stress corrosion cracking in harsh chloride environments (PREN ≥38), far outperforming standard ferritic or low-alloy austenitic grades.
SUS329J3L Stainless Steel Strength
SUS329J3L duplex stainless steel delivers a minimum yield strength of 450 MPa (65 ksi) and tensile strength of 620–880 MPa (90–128 ksi), with elongation ≥25%, offering twice the yield strength of conventional austenitic stainless steels while maintaining good toughness at temperatures ranging from -50°C to 250°C.
SUS329J3L Stainless Steel vs sus316
SUS329J3L (super duplex) has a higher chromium (25–27% vs 16–18%) and molybdenum (1.2–2.0% vs 2.0–3.0%) content than SUS316 (austenitic), with a PREN value 12–15 points higher, yielding superior chloride corrosion resistance and double the yield strength, but it costs 30–40% more and is less suitable for continuous service above 300°C.
