What is 304L stainless steel plate ?

304L stainless steel plate is a low-carbon version of the widely used Type 304 stainless steel, an austenitic alloy containing approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel. The "L" designation stands for its "low carbon" content (up to 0.03%), which improves weldability and prevents carbide precipitation in thick-gauge sections, making it ideal for welding applications that do not require post-weld heat treatment. It offers excellent mechanical properties and good corrosion resistance and is non-magnetic in the annealed condition. It is available in 2B, BA, No. 4, HL, and mirror finishes. It is more affordable than higher-alloy grades such as 316L.
