Our 904L stainless steel coils are made of low-carbon, high-nickel, and molybdenum-alloyed super-austenitic stainless steel. Its overall corrosion resistance is vastly superior to standard 304 and 316L stainless steel. It offers exceptional resistance to dilute sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, chloride crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC). Notably, it can withstand temperatures up to 40°C in pure sulfuric acid across concentrations ranging from 0% to 98%.
For our cold-rolled 904L stainless steel coils, the thickness tolerance is strictly controlled within ±0.02 mm. It features a tensile strength of 490–790 MPa, a yield strength of ≥215 MPa, and an elongation of ≥35%, delivering outstanding toughness and excellent workability. Compared to 316L, its service life in highly acidic environments is 3 to 5 times longer, significantly reducing downtime, maintenance costs, and the need for frequent replacements.

Available surface finishes include No.1, 2B, 2H (Skin-passed/Bright-rolled), BA, No.4, 8K (Mirror), HL (Hairline), and polished bright finishes. Edge processing options cover slit edges, mill edges, deburred edges, round edges, and V-shaped edges. 904L vs. 316L: Corrosion rates in concentrated sulfuric acid
In concentrated sulfuric acid, 904L significantly outperforms 316L. While 316L experiences rapid degradation and unacceptable corrosion rates above 10% acid concentration, 904L is highly resistant across the entire concentration range up to approximately 35°C, boasting corrosion rates of less than 0.1 mm/year.
904L vs. 2205 Duplex: Which is better?
Duplex stainless steel 2205 is generally the superior choice. With a yield strength approximately double that of 904L (roughly 450 MPa versus 220 MPa)-allowing for a 30% reduction in wall thickness-and exhibiting exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and pitting in seawater or brackish water environments, it has become the industry standard for marine engineering, desalination, and high-pressure piping applications.

Why is 904L so much more expensive than 304/316?
