What is 17-4PH aircraft stainless steel tubing ?
17-4PH aircraft tubing is a specialized aerospace-grade tube made from 17-4PH precipitation hardening stainless steel. Containing approximately 17% chromium and 4% copper, along with niobium and other stabilizing elements, this alloy undergoes solution treatment and age hardening to achieve tensile strengths up to 1310 MPa, allowing it to withstand the extreme stresses experienced during flight.
Thanks to its chromium-rich passive film on the surface, 17-4PH tubing offers excellent resistance to salt spray, low temperatures at high altitudes, and aggressive media such as aviation fuel.
In aerospace applications, 17-4PH stainless steel tubing is commonly supplied in the condition H900 to H1150, depending on the required strength and ductility balance.
Applications of 17-4PH Stainless Steel Tube in Aerospace
Landing gear and actuators
Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
Aircraft structural supports
Jet engine mounts
Fuel system components

What is the core difference between 17-4PH stainless steel and other stainless steels?
17-4PH is a precipitation hardening stainless steel. Unlike common austenitic stainless steels such as 304 and 316, it has greatly improved its strength and hardness through special heat treatment (solid solution + aging treatment). The tensile strength can reach up to 1310MPa, while the tensile strength of 304 stainless steel is only about 515MPa. Compared with martensitic stainless steel, 17-4PH has better toughness and corrosion resistance, and is a representative of the balance between high strength and corrosion resistance.
17-4PH aircraft grade stainless steel case
Taking the hydraulic pipeline of aircraft landing gear as an example, the use of 17-4PH stainless steel pipes instead of traditional materials can reduce the weight of the pipeline by 15%-20% while ensuring the same strength, thereby reducing fuel consumption and improving the economy and endurance of the aircraft.
