317 and 317L cold drawn stainless steel bars are high-alloy austenitic stainless steels designed for superior corrosion resistance in aggressive environments. With higher molybdenum content (3–4%) than 316/316L, these bars offer enhanced resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride-induced attack.

What is the difference between 317 stainless steel bar and 317L?
317 stainless steel: carbon content ≤0.08%, slightly higher strength, suitable for non-welding or low sensitivity to intergranular corrosion. 317L stainless steel: carbon content ≤0.03% (ultra-low carbon), significantly reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion after welding, suitable for structures that require frequent welding.

Both contain high molybdenum (Mo 3.0-4.0%), and have better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion than 316 stainless steel, especially in chloride environments (such as seawater and salt solutions). 317L has better resistance to intergranular corrosion after welding due to its low carbon characteristics.
