Which is better SUS304 or SUS316?

ASTM A240 Stainless Steel Sheet Specification.pdf

What is the temperature range for ss304h?

Stainless steel, also known as inox steel or inox from French "inoxydable", is a steel alloy with a minimum of 10.5% to 11% chromium content by mass. Stainless steel does not readily corrode, rust or stain with water as ordinary steel does, but despite the name it is not fully stain-proof, most notably under low oxygen, high salinity, or poor circulation environments. It is also called corrosion-resistant steel or CRES when the alloy type and grade are not detailed, particularly in the aviation industry. There are different grades and surface finishes of stainless steel to suit the environment the alloy must endure. Stainless steel is used where both the properties of steel and resistance to corrosion are required.

Q: What is 316 stainless steel plate?

A: Austenitic stainless steel (16-18% Cr, 10-14% Ni, 2-3% Mo), offering superior corrosion resistance vs. 304, especially in chloride environments.

Q: What are its key mechanical properties?

A: Tensile strength: 515-700 MPa; Yield strength: ≥205 MPa; Elongation: ≥40%; Hardness (HB): ≤217.

Q: What applications is it ideal for?

A: Marine equipment, chemical processing, coastal architecture, food/beverage machinery, and medical devices (high corrosion resistance needs).

Q: Which international standards govern it?

A: ASTM A240 316, JIS G4305 SUS316, GB/T 3280 06Cr17Ni12Mo2, EN 10088-2 X5CrNiMo17-12-2.

Q: How is it superior to 304 stainless steel?

A: Added molybdenum enhances chloride corrosion resistance; better suited for saltwater, acidic, or harsh industrial environments (higher cost than 304).
