ASTM A269 TP316 bright annealed stainless steel tube is an austenitic stainless steel pipe made from TP316 (UNS S31600) material and processed by Bright Annealing (BA). It typically contains 16–18% chromium (Cr), 10–14% nickel (Ni), and 2–3% molybdenum (Mo), providing excellent corrosion resistance, high surface finish, and good mechanical properties.
According to standard requirements, 316L stainless steel tubes are generally supplied in a solution-annealed condition. The annealing temperature is not lower than 1040°C, followed by water quenching or rapid cooling to ensure uniform microstructure and improved resistance to intergranular corrosion. The product is available in both seamless and welded forms, with common outer diameters ranging from 6–48 mm (approximately 1/4"–2") and wall thickness from 0.5–3.0 mm. Standard lengths include 3 m, 6 m, or customized sizes. The surface has a silver-white metallic luster (BA finish), without pickling, featuring smooth inner and outer walls with low roughness, which makes it easy to clean and sterilize.

ASTM A269 TP316 tubing is suitable for applications with an inner diameter ≥ 1/4 inch and wall thickness ≥ 0.020 inch. It is widely used in chemical, food, pharmaceutical, power generation, heat exchanger, and instrumentation piping systems where high cleanliness and corrosion resistance are required.

What is the typical surface roughness (Ra) of ASTM A269 TP316 BA tubing?
The typical internal and external roughness of bright annealed (BA) tubing is generally around Ra < 0.5 μm (20 μin). For applications requiring higher purity such as in the semiconductor or ultra-pure gas industries the Ra value can be further reduced to below 0.25 μm through subsequent electropolishing (EP).
Applications:
Control and Instrumentation Tubing.
Chromatography and Laboratory equipment.
Pharmaceutical and Biotech processing.
Semiconductor gas delivery systems.
