ASTM A790/ASME SA790 is the standard specification for seamless and welded ferritic/austenitic (duplex) stainless steel pipe, with particular emphasis on resistance to stress corrosion cracking. These pipes are susceptible to embrittlement after prolonged use at elevated temperatures.

Its chemical composition includes 22-23% chromium, 4.5-6.5% nickel, 3-3.5% molybdenum, and 0.14-0.20% nitrogen, with nitrogen optimizing the ratio of the two phases (approximately 1:1). This material complies with ASTM A790/A790M standards and is available in both seamless and welded forms. Outer diameters range from 20-762mm, with wall thicknesses from 2-120mm. It is delivered heat-treated and pickled.
UNS S32205 duplex stainless steel welded pipe has a yield strength of ≥450MPa, a tensile strength of ≥620MPa, and an elongation of ≥25%. With a PREN value of 35-40, it exhibits excellent resistance to pitting and stress corrosion in chloride-containing environments (such as seawater and chemical media). It is widely used in the oil and gas, offshore engineering, and pressure vessel industries. Welding requires the use of compatible welding consumables such as ER2594, and controlled heat input and interpass temperature to maintain two-phase equilibrium.
