Why 430 dominates chimney bodies?
Withstands 800°C coals without warping. Perforations allow airflow while blocking sparks. Avoid galvanized models - zinc fumes contaminate food when heated.
Proper lighting technique?
Fill bottom with newspaper, top with charcoal. Light bottom vents - flames should rise through coals in 15 mins. Never use lighter fluid.
Ash disposal safety?
Dump coals into steel bucket, saturate with water, wait 24 hours. Store cold ash in metal containers away from structures.
Extending lifespan?
Empty ashes immediately after use. Coat exterior with vegetable oil when cool to prevent rust. Store upside-down under cover.
Replacement signs?
Holes larger than 1cm in mesh, warped bases causing instability, or rust flakes contaminating charcoal.
