Overview
EN 1.4301 is the most widely used austenitic stainless steel under the European EN standard, recognized as the official European counterpart of the AISI 304 grade. It is celebrated for its exceptional balance of corrosion resistance, formability, weldability, and cost-effectiveness, serving as the cornerstone material in global manufacturing. This grade is engineered to resist corrosion in atmospheric, freshwater, and most mild corrosive environments, while maintaining excellent cold working performance and structural stability. Unlike specialized alloys for extreme conditions, EN 1.4301 focuses on providing reliable, all-around performance, making it suitable for both consumer products and heavy industrial equipment.
Chemical Composition (wt%)
C ≤ 0.08, Cr: 18.00-20.00, Ni: 8.00-11.00, Mn ≤ 2.00, Si ≤ 1.00, P ≤ 0.045, S ≤ 0.015, N ≤ 0.11
Typical Mechanical Properties (Annealed Condition)
Tensile Strength (Rm): ≥ 520 MPa; Yield Strength (Rp0.2): ≥ 205 MPa; Elongation (A): ≥ 40%; Brinell Hardness (HB): ≤ 201
Core Advantages
Excellent combination of corrosion resistance, formability, and weldability, adapting to various manufacturing processes from stamping to welding; cost-effective for mass production while ensuring basic corrosion protection; non-magnetic at room temperature, meeting specific electromagnetic application requirements; easy to achieve high-quality surface finishes (bright, mirror-like) for decorative components.
Applications
Kitchen sinks, household appliance casings, indoor decorative pipes, food processing equipment, general chemical containers, ordinary building components, fasteners, and daily stainless steel products.
Equivalent Grades
AISI 304, UNS S30400, GB 06Cr19Ni10, SUS304
