Description
EN 1.4878 is a titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel, corresponding to AISI 321, engineered for high-temperature applications requiring enhanced intergranular corrosion resistance. It contains 17.0-19.0% chromium, 9.0-12.0% nickel, and 0.15-0.40% titanium- which binds with carbon to prevent chromium carbide precipitation, ensuring resistance to sensitization even after welding. Unlike EN 1.4541, it offers superior high-temperature stability and creep strength, suitable for continuous service at temperatures up to 800°C. It is non-magnetic at room temperature, has good formability and weldability, and is widely used in aerospace, automotive, and industrial heating applications where high-heat performance and post-weld corrosion resistance are critical.
Chemical Composition (wt%)
C ≤ 0.08, Cr: 17.00-19.00, Ni: 9.00-12.00, Ti: 0.15-0.40, Mn ≤ 2.00, Si ≤ 1.00, P ≤ 0.045, S ≤ 0.030
Mechanical Properties
Tensile Strength ≥ 515 MPa, Yield Strength ≥ 205 MPa, Elongation ≥ 40%, Hardness ≤ 201 HB
Advantages
Titanium-stabilized for superior intergranular corrosion resistance; excellent high-temperature creep strength; non-magnetic; good weldability and formability; suitable for high-heat critical applications; post-weld corrosion stable.
Applications
Aerospace components, automotive exhaust systems, heat exchangers, boiler parts, furnace components, and high-temperature welded structures.
Equivalent Grades
AISI 321, UNS S32100, GB 06Cr18Ni10Ti, SUS321
