Overview
EN 1.4948 is a high-strength austenitic stainless steel developed for heavy-duty industrial applications requiring superior mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. It is alloyed with nitrogen to enhance strength without compromising ductility and toughness, distinguishing itself from conventional austenitic grades like EN 1.4301. This grade maintains a stable austenitic structure at room temperature, offering excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and general corrosion in moderate corrosive environments. It is particularly suitable for high-pressure, high-load components that demand both strength and corrosion durability.
Chemical Composition (wt%)
C ≤ 0.08, Cr: 18.00-20.00, Ni: 8.00-10.00, Mn ≤ 2.00, Si ≤ 1.00, P ≤ 0.045, S ≤ 0.015, N: 0.10-0.20
Typical Mechanical Properties (Annealed Condition)
Tensile Strength (Rm): ≥ 600 MPa; Yield Strength (Rp0.2): ≥ 270 MPa; Elongation (A): ≥ 35%; Brinell Hardness (HB): ≤ 240
Core Advantages
Nitrogen alloying enhances tensile and yield strength while maintaining good ductility; excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and general corrosion; non-magnetic at room temperature; good weldability and formability, suitable for complex forming and welding processes; high structural stability under high pressure and load.
Applications
High-pressure pipelines, pressure vessels, industrial pumps and valves, marine structural components, and heavy-duty mechanical parts requiring high strength and corrosion resistance.
Equivalent Grades
AISI 304N, UNS S30451, GB 06Cr19Ni10N, SUS304N1
