Overview

Grade 439 is a titanium-stabilized ferritic stainless steel, designed to enhance weldability and prevent intergranular corrosion in welded components. It contains 17.0-19.0% chromium and titanium (0.10-0.30%), which forms stable carbides to prevent chromium depletion during welding. Unlike non-stabilized ferritic grades, Grade 439 offers excellent weld integrity without post-weld annealing, making it suitable for large welded structures. It is magnetic, has good formability and thermal conductivity, and provides better corrosion resistance than Grade 430, serving as a cost-effective choice for welded industrial components.

Chemical Composition (wt%)

C ≤ 0.07, Cr: 17.00-19.00, Ti: 0.10-0.30, Mn ≤ 1.00, Si ≤ 1.00, P ≤ 0.045, S ≤ 0.030, Ni ≤ 0.75

Typical Mechanical Properties (Annealed Condition)

Tensile Strength (Rm): ≥ 450 MPa; Yield Strength (Rp0.2): ≥ 240 MPa; Elongation (A): ≥ 20%; Brinell Hardness (HB): ≤ 183

Core Advantages

Titanium-stabilized to prevent intergranular corrosion in welds; no post-weld annealing required; good weldability and formability; magnetic with excellent thermal conductivity; better corrosion resistance than Grade 430; cost-effective for welded structures.

Applications

Welded heat exchangers, boiler components, automotive exhaust systems, industrial piping, and large welded structural parts in mild corrosive environments.

Equivalent Grades
