Why 316L-EP covers 90% of wet bench applications?
Electropolishing to Ra 0.15μm limits particle shedding to <5/ft³ >0.1μm. Handles HF/HNO₃ mixtures at 60°C with <0.01mm/year corrosion. Costs $350/kg vs. 904L's $850/kg.

When 904L is mandatory for advanced nodes?
For <5nm nodes processing copper interconnects with HCl/H₂O₂ mixtures. Molybdenum (4.5%) prevents pitting from chloride residuals. Surface iron content <0.001% prevents electroplating defects.

Maximum allowable contaminant levels?
Transition metals <1E10 atoms/cm². Particles >0.05μm <0.1/mL. Organic residues <5ng/cm². Surface roughness Rz <0.5μm after 500 cleaning cycles.

Critical welding specifications?
Orbital GTAW with ER316LSi filler under argon tent (O₂<10ppm). Internal purge until weld cools below 100°C. Electropolishing removes 15μm post-weld.

Validation methods?
VPD-ICPMS surface metal scans. TOF-SIMS organic mapping. Ellipsometry for oxide thickness. Electrochemical corrosion potential monitoring.
