SUS309S Stainless Steel: High-Temperature Performance OverviewThe difference between 304, 304L, 316 and 316L304 vs 304L stainless steel pipe comparison

Key High-Temperature Characteristics:

Oxidation Resistance: Up to 1900°F (1038°C) non-cyclic; around 1850°F (1010°C) with thermal cycling.

Corrosion Resistance: Superior to Type 304, especially in high-heat, oxidizing, and sulfurous (up to 1832°F/1000°C) conditions.

Strength: Maintains mechanical integrity at elevated temperatures, unlike many other steels.

Carburization/Nitriding: Moderate resistance; not for highly carburizing (carbon-rich) atmospheres.

Advantages of the 'S' Grade (SUS309S):

Low Carbon (<0.08%): Prevents carbide precipitation during welding, reducing sensitization and improving weldability.

Application: Better suited for welded components in high-temp service.

Common Applications:

Industrial Furnaces & Boilers

Heat Exchangers

Thermal Processing Equipment

Waste Treatment Facilities
