Key Characteristics
Stabilization: Niobium (Nb) forms stable carbides, preventing chromium carbides from forming at grain boundaries, which would otherwise cause corrosion.
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion after exposure to high temperatures (800-1500°F / 427-815°C).
High-Temperature Performance: Better creep and stress-rupture strength than 304/304L, resisting oxidation up to 1500°F (815°C).
Weldability: Ideal for welding without post-weld heat treatment, as it avoids sensitization.
Non-Magnetic: It is non-magnetic in the annealed condition.
Typical Applications
Aerospace: Aircraft exhaust systems, manifolds, engine parts.
Chemical & Petrochemical: High-temperature piping, reactors, processing equipment.
Power Generation: Boiler components, steam lines, superheater tubes.
Heat Treatment: Furnace parts, high-temperature fixtures.
