Aisi 430 stainless steel vs stainless steel 304304 Stainless Steel vs. 316 Stainless Steel: Which Grade Should You ChooseSS316 vs. SS316L: What's the Difference in Corrosion Resistance & Cost?

Key Properties:

Composition: Ferritic, ~18% Chromium, low carbon, no nickel.

Magnetic: Yes, unlike austenitic grades like 304.

Corrosion Resistance: Good, better than 13Cr steels, resists nitric acid, but inferior to 304/316 in harsh conditions.

Heat Resistance: Good; resists oxidation up to 870°C (periodic use).

Formability: Excellent, highly workable, good ductility.

Hardening: Not hardenable by heat treatment, but hardness increases with cold working.

Cost: More economical than nickel-bearing grades like SUS304.

Common Applications:

Appliances: Dishwashers, washing machines, refrigerators (interior/exterior).

Automotive: Trim, exhaust systems, fuel system components.

Kitchenware: Spoons, forks, cookware (budget-friendly).

Architectural: Decorative trim, interior structures.

Industrial: Chemical equipment (due to nitric acid resistance).

Limitations:

Lower corrosion resistance than SUS304, especially in saltwater or aggressive chemicals.

Less strength and corrosion resistance than 304/316 in high-chlorine or marine environments.
