Product Overview
UNS S31609 is the high-carbon variant of S31600, combining the chloride corrosion resistance of 316 with elevated high-temperature strength. With a carbon range of 0.04-0.10%, it delivers improved creep resistance and mechanical stability at temperatures above 500°C, making it suitable for high-heat, corrosive environments where standard 316 and 316L lack strength. This grade retains the molybdenum alloying for chloride protection, remaining non-magnetic and weldable. It is tailored for petrochemical and power generation applications that demand both heat resistance and corrosion durability.
Chemical Composition (Mass Fraction, %)
C: 0.04-0.10, Cr: 16.00-18.50, Ni: 10.00-14.00, Mo: 2.00-3.00, Mn ≤ 2.00, Si ≤ 1.00, P ≤ 0.045, S ≤ 0.030, N ≤ 0.11
Mechanical Properties (Annealed Condition)
Tensile Strength ≥ 520 MPa; Yield Strength ≥ 205 MPa; Elongation ≥ 40%; Hardness ≤ 215 HB
Core Advantages
Balanced high-temperature creep strength and chloride corrosion resistance; excellent oxidation resistance in harsh heat environments; non-magnetic; reliable weldability; suitable for pressure-retaining high-heat components.
Typical Applications
High-temperature chemical reactors, boiler superheaters, petrochemical piping, heat exchangers, and power generation equipment in corrosive thermal settings.
Equivalent Grades
AISI 316H, EN 1.4406, GB 07Cr17Ni12Mo2, SUS316H
