What is the difference between S32205 and 316?

S32205 (Duplex 2205) is a high-performance duplex stainless steel with roughly double the yield strength and superior corrosion resistance (pitting/crevice) compared to 316/316L austenitic stainless steel. S32205 is ideal for harsh chloride/seawater environments, while 316 is suited for moderate, lower-cost applications.

 

What is the difference between S32750 and S32205?

S32750 (Super Duplex) and S32205 (Standard Duplex) differ primarily in alloy content and corrosion resistance, with S32750 offering superior performance in harsh environments. S32750 features higher Chromium (25%), Molybdenum (4%), and Nitrogen (0.3%) content, resulting in a higher Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN > 40) compared to S32205 (PREN < 40). S32750 provides better chloride resistance.

904L	Better formability is needed, with similar corrosion resistance and lower strength.
UR52N+	High resistance to corrosion is required, e.g. resistance to higher temperature seawater.
6%Mo	Higher corrosion resistance is required, but with lower strength and better formability.
316L	The high corrosion resistance and strength of 2205 are not needed. 316L is lower cost.
