X5CrNi18-10 is a common austenitic stainless steel, also known as DIN material number 1.4301 and US number 304. "X5CrNi18-10" indicates that its composition is approximately 18% chromium and 10% nickel, exhibiting good corrosion resistance, weldability, and cold formability, making it suitable for a variety of applications.

 

What is X5CrNi18-10 material equivalent to?

Corrosion Resistance

1.4301 stainless steel contains approximately 18% chromium and 10% nickel, with a low carbon content. It exhibits good resistance to atmospheric corrosion and various inorganic and organic chemicals. The oxide scale or annealing color in the forged state reduces its corrosion resistance and must be removed.

 

Weldability

1.4301 stainless steel (AISI 304 / X5CrNi18-10) is suitable for all common welding processes (except gas welding). No filler material is required. It is prone to intergranular corrosion in the weld state and is not suitable for saltwater or chlorine-containing environments. It is non-magnetic in the annealed state but may become slightly magnetic after cold working.

 

Forgeability

1.4301 material has good forgeability. After slow heating to approximately 1150°C - 1180°C, the material can be forged in a temperature range of approximately 1180 - 950°C. Cooling should be done in water or air after forging.

 

Heat Treatment and Hot Forming
Solution Heat Treatment (Air Cooling or Water Cooling): 1000-1100 °C
Hot Forming (Air Cooling): 1200-900 °C
