What is the difference between Inconel 600 and 718?
Inconel 600 and 718 are both nickel-based superalloys, but 718 is a precipitation-strengthened alloy with significantly higher strength, making it ideal for high-stress applications like aerospace engines, while 600 is a solid-solution strengthened alloy, known for its excellent corrosion resistance and use in chemical processing and nuclear applications.
The main differences are their composition (718 adds elements like niobium and is often considered Ni+Co based, while 600 is primarily Ni-Cr-Fe) and strengthening mechanism, which leads to 718's superior mechanical properties, especially at high temperatures.
