In atmospheric environments, intermittent use is allowed up to 870°C, and continuous use up to 925°C.
According to ASME B31.3, allowable stress decreases significantly with increasing temperature. Prolonged use of TP316 above 425°C can cause sensitization; if operating conditions exceed 500°C, TP316H or TP347 is generally recommended.
