This standard specifies the chemical composition, manufacturing processes, and performance requirements of tubes used in tubular feedwater heaters, ensuring their suitability for high-temperature corrosive environments in various power plants and chemical plants.
ASTM A688 U-bend tubes include austenitic stainless steels such as 304/304L and 316/316L, offering high-temperature and corrosion-resistant properties. The tubes are typically annealed to enhance their mechanical properties and corrosion resistance for use in feedwater heaters. They cover tubes with outer diameters ranging from 5/8" to 1" and wall thicknesses of 0.028" and above, with U-bend configurations available as per customer requirements.
Material Grades: Commonly TP304, 304L, 316, 316L, 321, and 304N, 316N, and specialized alloys like S31254 (254SMO).
Tube Types: Welded is standard per ASTM A688, though seamless may be applied under related specs.
Dimensions: Outside diameters from 5/8 to 1 in. (15.9 to 25.4 mm), with wall thicknesses of 0.028 in. (0.7 mm) or heavier.
U-Bend Characteristics: Bending radius usually from 1.5*OD up to 1500 mm. The bend portion plus 6 inches (150 mm) of each leg is typically stress-relieved.
Finish: Supplied in solution-annealed, pickled, or bright annealed conditions.
Testing: Requirements include hydrostatic testing (or air-under-water) and nondestructive electric tests.
