ASTM A249 TP321 Stainless Steel Tube Supplier and Manufacturer
ASTM A249 Standard Specification covers welded austenitic steel tubes for boilers, superheaters, heat exchangers, and condensers. It is specifically engineered to meet the demands for long-term, stable operation of condenser systems in thermal power plants, nuclear power facilities, and industrial heat exchange equipment.
Our ASTM A249 TP321 tubes are manufactured from premium-grade stainless steel strips using high-precision forming and advanced welding techniques, such as TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) or laser welding. Following the welding process, the tubes undergo solution annealing and pickling (or bright annealing) to eliminate residual welding stresses. The strength and corrosion resistance of the weld seam are fully equal to those of the base metal. Furthermore, the weld-to-base metal hardness ratio is strictly controlled at R ≤ 1.25, ensuring that the weld zone does not become a vulnerable hotspot for corrosion in condenser cooling water environments.

The carbon content of ASTM A249 TP321 heat exchanger tubes is limited to ≤ 0.08%, with titanium added as a stabilizing element at a range of 5 × (C+N) to 0.70%. The addition of titanium effectively suppresses the precipitation of chromium carbides at high temperatures, completely eliminating the risk of intergranular corrosion (IGC) to which conventional 304 stainless steel is susceptible under sensitized conditions.
After solution treatment at 1040°C followed by rapid cooling, the TP321 welded tubes achieve a minimum tensile strength of 515 MPa, a minimum yield strength of 205 MPa, an elongation after fracture of at least 35%, and a hardness controlled below 90 HRB. Compared to conventional carbon steel or copper alloy condenser tubes, this material effectively reduces the risk of internal fouling and corrosion leaks, prolongs equipment service life, and significantly lowers the overall maintenance costs of power plant or industrial heat exchange systems.

ASTM A249 TP321 Stainless Steel Welded Pipe Applications
Surface Condensers, Heat Exchangers, Power Plants, Petrochemical Plants, Refineries, Chemical Processing Equipment, Boiler Systems, Marine Condensers, Food Processing Equipment.

How does TP321 differ from TP304L in condenser applications?
While both grades resist intergranular corrosion, TP304L achieves this through a low carbon content (<0.03%), whereas TP321 relies on the addition of titanium. Compared to TP304L, TP321 is better suited for environments characterized by significant temperature fluctuations or higher maximum operating temperatures.
Can ASTM A249 TP321 tubes be U-bent?
Yes. They are frequently processed into U-tubes for heat exchanger/condenser designs. It is often recommended to perform stress-relief annealing on the U-bend area to restore corrosion resistance and relieve internal stresses caused by the bending process.
Quality Control
Flattening Test & Reverse Flattening Test: Ensures the weld does not crack under deformation.
Flange Test & Flaring Test: Validates the tube's ability to be expanded into tube sheets.
Hydrostatic or Nondestructive Electric Test (Eddy Current): 100% testing to detect leaks or invisible flaws in the weld.

Standard packaging
Each ASTM A249 TP321 stainless steel condenser and heat exchanger tube is fitted with protective plastic end caps to prevent contamination and mechanical damage during transit. The tubes are wrapped in a waterproof, moisture-resistant film and securely strapped with steel bands before being packed into sturdy fumigated wooden crates or export-grade plywood boxes to ensure optimal protection. Each package is clearly marked with the heat number, dimensions, specifications, quantity, and purchase order details to ensure full traceability.
