What is AISI 441 stainless steel sheet?
ASTM A240 standard covers stainless steel plates, sheets, and strips intended for pressure vessels and general applications. Type 441 (2D finish) is a dual-stabilized ferritic stainless steel containing approximately 17.5%–19.5% chromium, with additions of titanium and niobium that enhance high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, weldability, and resistance to intergranular corrosion. Compared to Type 409, Type 441 offers higher chromium content and superior resistance to thermal fatigue, oxidation, and corrosion, making it particularly suitable for automotive exhaust manifolds, catalytic converter housings, mufflers, heat exchangers, furnace components, and other high-temperature applications.
441 Stainless Steel plate manufacturer,supplier
GNEE supplies 441/UNS S44100 plates, sheets, coils, and slit strips in full compliance with ASTM A240/ASME SA240 standards. Cold-rolled products are available in thicknesses ranging from approximately 0.5 mm to 3.0 mm, standard widths from 1000 mm to 1500 mm, and lengths from 2000 mm to 6000 mm or customized to client drawings. We also offer value-added processing services including leveling, slitting, laser cutting, and cut-to-length solutions tailored to specific project requirements. Manufactured through advanced steelmaking, refining, continuous casting, hot rolling, annealing and pickling, cold rolling, and final annealing processes, our 441 2D finish stainless steel plates are cold rolled, annealed, and pickled to produce a uniform, low-reflectivity matte silver-gray surface. This finish provides excellent ductility for downstream stamping, bending, deep drawing, and further surface processing. Additionally, GNEE supplies a full range of surface finishes including 2B, BA, No.1, No.4, Hairline (HL), and 8K Mirror to meet diverse application demands.

Why choose a 2D finish over the commonly used 2B finish?
The 2B finish is smooth and glossy, whereas the 2D finish has a matte, silvery-gray appearance. The slightly rough microstructure of the 2D finish retains lubricant more effectively. Consequently, during deep drawing or severe forming operations, the 2D finish reduces friction between the workpiece and the die and prevents scoring, offering superior processing performance compared to the 2B finish.

FAQ
What is the difference between 441 and 304 stainless steel?
Composition: 441 is a ferritic stainless steel (containing no nickel), whereas 304 is an austenitic stainless steel (containing approximately 8% nickel).
Magnetism: 441 is strongly magnetic, while 304 is generally non-magnetic.
Thermal properties: 441 has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion and better thermal conductivity; consequently, it is less prone to fatigue cracking than 304 in high-temperature cyclic environments (such as exhaust pipes).
Cost: Due to the absence of nickel, the price of 441 is generally lower and more stable than that of 304.
What temperature can 441 stainless steel withstand?
Oxidation resistance: 441 maintains good oxidation resistance in continuous service temperatures up to 950°C.
It is primarily designed to replace 409L or 439 in automotive exhaust system components that operate at higher temperatures (such as manifolds and front pipes).
How can 441 and 439 stainless steel be distinguished?
Chemical composition: 441 contains niobium (Nb), whereas 439 typically contains only titanium (Ti).
High-temperature performance: 441 exhibits higher strength than 439 at temperatures above 600°C.
Testing: They cannot be distinguished by the naked eye; spectroscopic analysis (PMI) is required to detect the Nb content.
