What is ASTM A276 Stainless Steel 420 Bars?
ASTM A276 is a standard for stainless steel bars and profiles developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), covering hot-rolled, cold-drawn and machined stainless steel products.
420 stainless steel is a martensitic stainless steel with high carbon content (≥0.15%) and chromium (12-14%) as the main alloying elements. It has high strength, high hardness and wear resistance, and is suitable for scenarios that require cutting performance and moderate corrosion resistance.

420 vs 430 304 440C stainless steel bar
420vs 430 (ferritic stainless steel):
420 has a higher carbon content and can be hardened by heat treatment. Its hardness and strength are significantly better than 430, but its corrosion resistance is lower.
420vs 304 (austenitic stainless steel):
304 has stronger corrosion resistance and is non-magnetic, but cannot be hardened by heat treatment and its strength is lower than 420.
420vs 440C (high carbon martensitic stainless steel):
440C has a higher carbon content (0.95-1.20%), better hardness (HRC 58-62) and wear resistance than 420, and is suitable for more stringent wear-resistant scenarios (such as bearings and medical devices).
