Overview
As a mainstream European standard austenitic stainless steel, 1.4301 is analogous to AISI 304 but features more rigorous control over chemical composition to ensure consistent performance. Its formulation includes 18.00-20.00% chromium and 8.00-12.00% nickel, which work together to form a compact passive oxide layer on the surface, delivering reliable general corrosion resistance in atmospheric conditions, fresh water systems, and mild chemical settings. Possessing a face-centered cubic austenitic structure, it remains non-magnetic after annealing, with remarkable ductility, cold working capacity, and weldability. This cost-efficient and adaptable grade is widely adopted as the primary material for general industrial and civil applications across Europe and worldwide.
Chemical Composition (wt%)
C ≤ 0.08, Si ≤ 1.00, Mn ≤ 2.00, P ≤ 0.045, S ≤ 0.030, Cr: 18.00-20.00, Ni: 8.00-12.00, N ≤ 0.10
Typical Mechanical Properties (Annealed Condition)
Tensile Strength (Rm): ≥ 515 MPa; Yield Strength (Rp0.2): ≥ 205 MPa; Elongation (A): ≥ 40%; Brinell Hardness (HB): ≤ 187
Core Advantages
Meets strict European EN standard requirements for chemical and mechanical consistency; outstanding general corrosion resistance in mild environments; non-magnetic nature and high ductility enable complex forming processes; easy to weld without the need for preheating; cost-effective and readily available in global markets, especially in Europe.
Applications
Industrial equipment enclosures, stainless steel architectural components, food processing machinery, water supply and drainage systems, home appliances, and decorative stainless steel products.
Equivalent Grades
AISI 304, UNS S30400, STS304, SUS304, GB 06Cr19Ni10
