Overview
1.4948 is a high-chromium-nickel austenitic heat-resistant stainless steel, specifically engineered for extreme high-temperature applications that demand exceptional oxidation and creep resistance. It consists of 20.00-23.00% chromium, 11.00-14.00% nickel, and trace amounts of titanium and niobium for stabilization, forming a dense protective oxide film that can endure continuous service at temperatures up to 900°C and short-term peak temperatures up to 1000°C. Its austenitic structure ensures non-magnetic properties after annealing, along with good ductility and weldability. This grade is extensively utilized in European industrial furnaces and high-temperature processing equipment due to its reliable high-temperature performance.
Chemical Composition (wt%)
C ≤ 0.08, Si ≤ 1.00, Mn ≤ 2.00, P ≤ 0.045, S ≤ 0.030, Cr: 20.00-23.00, Ni: 11.00-14.00, Ti: 0.10-0.30, Nb: 0.10-0.30
Typical Mechanical Properties (Annealed Condition)
Tensile Strength (Rm): ≥ 520 MPa; Yield Strength (Rp0.2): ≥ 210 MPa; Elongation (A): ≥ 40%; Brinell Hardness (HB): ≤ 201
Core Advantages
Exceptional high-temperature oxidation and creep resistance; titanium-niobium stabilization effectively prevents intergranular corrosion; non-magnetic structure; good weldability and ductility; complies with European EN heat-resistant steel standards; maintains stable performance under thermal cycling conditions.
Applications
Industrial furnace linings, heat treatment jigs and fixtures, boiler superheater tubes, petrochemical cracking equipment, high-temperature kiln components, and thermal processing tools.
Equivalent Grades
