What sets 316Ti's composition apart?

It contains 16-18% chromium, 10-14% nickel, 2-3% molybdenum, and 0.04-0.10% titanium. The titanium stabilizes against carbide precipitation, even at high temperatures, making it more resistant to intergranular corrosion than standard 316.

How does 316Ti perform under high temperatures?

316Ti retains strength up to 800°C and resists oxidation better than 316 in prolonged heat exposure. Its titanium content prevents chromium carbide formation in the heat-affected zone during welding, preserving corrosion resistance.

What are its corrosion resistance properties?

It offers the same excellent resistance to chlorides and chemicals as 316 but with added protection against intergranular corrosion at high temperatures. This makes it ideal for welded components in chemical processing and marine environments.

How does 316Ti compare to 316L in fabrication?

Both are highly weldable and formable, but 316Ti requires slightly more precise heat control during welding to maximize titanium's stabilizing effect. It has similar mechanical properties, with tensile strength around 515 MPa and good ductility.

What are 316Ti's typical applications?

Commonly used in heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and chemical reactors operating at high temperatures. It's also found in marine equipment and offshore pipelines where welded joints need long-term corrosion resistance.
