The two most common materials covered by the ASTM B163 specification include Monel 400 and Inconel 825. Of the two alloys, Inconel 825 is the most heat-resistant. Monel 400, or ASTM B163 Uns N04400, is a high-strength alloy with good toughness over a wide temperature range. ASTM B 163 N04400 alloy can be hardened by cold working.
Monel 400 tubes exhibit slight magnetism at room temperature, demonstrating resistance to seawater and steam, as well as tolerance to salt and alkaline solutions in high-temperature environments. These high-pressure tubes are designed with a density of 8.8 g/cm³ and can withstand pressures up to 7000 PSIG. Additionally, they offer excellent resistance to alkaline and neutral salt solutions.

Applications:
Heat Exchangers and Condensers: Used in systems that handle seawater or other corrosive fluids.
Marine Engineering: Ideal for shipbuilding, seawater desalination, and offshore equipment.
Chemical Processing: Used in alkali and acid-handling systems.
Oil and Gas Industry: Suitable for sour gas service and other challenging environments
What is the difference between Monel 400 and Monel 500?
Monel 400 is a standard nickel-copper alloy with good corrosion resistance, while Monel 500, also known as Monel K-500, is a precipitation-hardenable version of Monel 400, meaning it has significantly higher strength and hardness due to the addition of elements like aluminum and titanium, which allows for further strengthening through heat treatment; essentially, Monel 500 offers the same corrosion resistance as Monel 400 but with much greater mechanical strength.
We offer ASTM B163 UNS N04400 seamless tube for use in the condenser and heat-exchanger service, SB163 400 seamless tube specifies sizes on the outside diameter and average wall, or outside diameter and minimum wall tube. Email: info@gneestainless.com
The sizes covered by ASTM B163 specification are 3 in. (76.2 mm) and under in outside diameter with minimum wall thicknesses of 0.148 in. (3.76 mm) and under, and with average wall thicknesses of 0.165 in. (4.19 mm) and under. small diameter and light wall tube (converter sizes) are defined.
