What Is ASTM A790 UNS S32750 Pipe?

ASTM A790 UNS S32750 Pipe is a super duplex stainless steel pipe manufactured to ASTM A790/A790M, which covers seamless and straight-seam welded ferritic-austenitic stainless steel pipes for corrosive service. Also known as 2507 (EN 1.4410), S32750 typically contains 24–26% chromium, 6–8% nickel, 3–5% molybdenum, and 0.24–0.32% nitrogen. Under ASTM A790 requirements, its minimum tensile strength is 800 MPa, minimum yield strength is 550 MPa, and minimum elongation is 15%. These properties make it suitable for demanding applications such as seawater desalination, offshore oil and gas, and chemical processing, where high strength and resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking are important.

ASTM A790 UNS S32750 Pipe Chemical Composition

Chemical composition is one of the first checks in a Super Duplex 2507 purchase. The high chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content helps explain the grade's corrosion resistance, while the heat-specific chemical analysis confirms whether the supplied material meets the required limits.

What is the PREN of UNS S32750?

The Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN) is a comparative metric commonly used to evaluate the pitting corrosion resistance of stainless steel grades. It is typically calculated using the following formula:
PREN = %Cr + 3.3(%Mo) + 16(%N)
Based on typical compositional values-25% chromium, 4% molybdenum, and 0.28% nitrogen-the calculated PREN is approximately 42.7. It should be noted, however, that the PREN does not guarantee the material's performance in all service environments.
