Description
EN 1.4961 is a high-strength austenitic stainless steel, designed for elevated-temperature applications requiring exceptional creep resistance and mechanical strength. Composed of 18.0-20.0% chromium, 11.0-13.0% nickel, and small additions of molybdenum, niobium, and titanium, it delivers superior performance at temperatures up to 800°C. Unlike standard high-temperature grades like EN 1.4306, it offers enhanced tensile strength and creep resistance, making it suitable for high-pressure, high-heat components. It is non-magnetic at room temperature, has good weldability and formability, and provides reliable corrosion resistance in mild high-heat environments. It is widely used in power generation, petrochemical, and industrial heating applications where high strength and thermal stability are critical.
Chemical Composition (wt%)
C ≤ 0.08, Cr: 18.00-20.00, Ni: 11.00-13.00, Mo: 2.00-2.50, Nb: 0.30-0.60, Ti: 0.10-0.20, Mn ≤ 2.00, Si ≤ 1.00, P ≤ 0.045, S ≤ 0.030
Mechanical Properties
Tensile Strength ≥ 550 MPa, Yield Strength ≥ 220 MPa, Elongation ≥ 35%, Hardness ≤ 220 HB
Advantages
Superior high-temperature creep strength and tensile strength; excellent oxidation resistance at 800°C; good weldability and formability; non-magnetic; reliable corrosion resistance in mild high-heat environments; suitable for high-pressure components.
Applications
High-temperature boiler tubes, petrochemical pressure vessels, power generation equipment, heat exchangers, and industrial heating systems requiring high strength and thermal stability.
