Overview
Grade 410 is the most widely used basic martensitic stainless steel, offering a unique combination of moderate corrosion resistance and good mechanical strength. It contains 11.5-13.5% chromium, which provides basic protection against atmospheric and mild chemical corrosion, while its martensitic structure allows for heat treatment to enhance hardness and strength. Unlike ferritic grades, Grade 410 can be hardened by quenching and tempering, making it suitable for applications requiring wear resistance and structural strength. It is magnetic and has good machinability, serving as a versatile choice for general industrial and consumer applications.
Chemical Composition (wt%)
C ≤ 0.15, Cr: 11.50-13.50, Mn ≤ 1.00, Si ≤ 1.00, P ≤ 0.045, S ≤ 0.030, Ni ≤ 0.75
Typical Mechanical Properties (Annealed Condition)
Tensile Strength (Rm): ≥ 485 MPa; Yield Strength (Rp0.2): ≥ 275 MPa; Elongation (A): ≥ 20%; Brinell Hardness (HB): ≤ 201
Core Advantages
Heat-treatable for enhanced hardness and strength; moderate corrosion resistance in mild environments; good machinability and weldability (with proper preheating); magnetic; cost-effective for strength-required applications; versatile for general use.
Applications
Valves, pumps, fasteners, cutlery, surgical instruments, machine parts, and general hardware requiring moderate strength and corrosion resistance.
Equivalent Grades
EN 1.4006, UNS S41000, GB 12Cr13, SUS410
