SUS304 (AISI 304)
Composition: 18% Chromium, 8% Nickel (18/8).
Best For: General-purpose, everyday applications, indoor use, cost-sensitive projects.
Uses: Kitchen appliances, decorative trim, food processing equipment (mildly corrosive), general architectural.
Pros: Economical, good formability, excellent corrosion resistance in mild conditions, easy to maintain.
SUS316 (AISI 316)
Composition: 18% Chromium, 10-14% Nickel, plus 2.5% Molybdenum.
Best For: Harsh, chloride-rich, marine, or chemical environments.
Uses: Marine hardware, medical implants, chemical processing equipment, coastal structures, brewing.
Pros: Superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion (from salt/chlorides), better high-temperature performance, excellent durability in aggressive settings.
Cons: More expensive than 304.
Selection Guide: Quick Tips
Saltwater/Chlorides/Chemicals: Go with 316.
General Indoor/Cost-Sensitive: Go with 304.
Food Prep: Both work, but 316 offers better resistance to salty/acidic foods.
High Heat/Sterilization Cycles: 316 handles frequent temperature changes better.
