SUS304: The Versatile Standard
Best For: Kitchen sinks, appliances, food processing, architectural trim, general indoor applications.
Pros: Cost-effective, good general corrosion resistance, great formability, widely available.
Cons: Susceptible to pitting in chloride (saltwater, chlorinated) environments.
SUS316: The Corrosion Fighter
Best For: Marine hardware, chemical equipment, medical instruments, coastal outdoor fixtures, pharmaceutical processing.
Pros: Excellent resistance to chlorides, saltwater, and harsh chemicals; enhanced high-temperature strength.
Cons: More expensive than 304 due to molybdenum content.
How to Decide
If it's indoors, not near the ocean, and no strong chemicals: Go with SUS304 for savings.
If it's near saltwater, in chemical plants, or medical devices: Choose SUS316 for longevity and reliability, as the added cost prevents premature failure.
