Key Properties & Characteristics:
Composition: Around 18% Chromium, stabilized with Titanium (Ti) and Niobium (Nb).
Corrosion Resistance: Good in various environments, including chloride solutions, offering resistance similar to Type 304 but excelling in high-heat exhaust gas conditions.
High-Temperature Strength: Superior oxidation and high-temperature strength compared to Type 409 and 439, with good creep resistance.
Weldability: Good weldability with excellent resistance to weld decay (sensitization) due to stabilization.
Formability: Good ductility and deep drawing capabilities.
Common Applications:
Automotive exhaust systems (manifolds, catalytic converters).
Heat exchangers.
Industrial equipment in corrosive/high-temp settings.
Architectural cladding (in suitable environments).
Grades & Equivalents:
UNS: S44100 (or S43940).
EN/DIN: 1.4509 (or X2CrTiNb18).
JIS: SUS441.
